In this Kobo vs Kindle comparison we look at the Kobo E-Reader is sold by Borders for use with their online store. It supports the following formats ePub, pdf, and Adobe DRM. It weighs about 8 ounces about the weight of a typical paperback which compares very well with the weight of the Amazon Kindle.

If you have dealt with the Ipod then you will like the Kobo. Ifs interface resembles those of the Ipod with 4 buttons on the side and a directional pad The Home button will take you where all your media is. “Menu” will allow you to move easily within a book. ‘Display’ will adjust your settings The D pad allows you to flip through pages. One of the things we like, unlike the Nook is that when you hit any button there is a blue light at the top that flashes to let you know that it got the message. This is quite intuitive. It wins here too.

You will also like the fact that it comes stocked with 100 free books – not bad.

However our reviews are never complete unless we tell you the cons of a device.

First it was quite slow compared to other e-readers. If you turn it on while someone else does so with a Kindle- they will be reading their e-books before yours has started up.

The Kobo does not come in WI-FI or 3G models- like the Kindle. So you have to connect it to your computer regularly to upload content. However its has an SD Card slot.

We also don’t like that it supports the fewest formats of all e readers. It also does not support any audio formats at all.

This e-reader is quite highly priced. At $129 it is priced higher than other e-readers – so it should have these additional features. We would not have a problem with all these issues if it was priced accordingly (such as the way we don’t mind Kindle Fire fewer features compared to the Ipad- as it is priced half as much).

Kobo E-reader $149 (Update: $129) Supported formats: Kindle (.AZW, .AZW1), mobi, prc, doc, html, rtf, doc, txt, jpg, gif, png, bmp, pdf; Audible (aa, aax), mp3
